Small open nest, umbrella-shaped. Brown wasps with yellow markings. Moderately defensive — will sting if the nest is touched. Most common near door frames and eaves.
Yellow Jackets
Often nest in wall voids, underground, or under siding. Highly aggressive when disturbed. Can sting repeatedly. Ground nests near doors are especially dangerous.
Bald-Faced Hornets
Large gray paper nest. Black and white coloring. Extremely aggressive when the nest is approached. Should always be handled professionally.
Why Nests Near Entry Points Are Different
Every time you approach your front door, you're entering the defense zone around the nest. Even without directly disturbing it, wasps can become aggressive from repeated foot traffic, vibration from the door, or hot weather. The closer the nest is to daily activity, the higher the sting risk.
