How to Identify It
Orange to red, highly variable in spot pattern (or no spots at all), with a distinctive black "M" or "W" marking on the whitish area just behind the head — the clearest way to distinguish it from native ladybugs.

Native ladybugs (no M/W head marking, don't swarm indoors, don't bite or stain).
Why It Shows Up
They seek overwintering sites and are strongly drawn to sun-warmed, light-colored exterior walls in fall, then squeeze through gaps around windows, siding, and soffits to overwinter in wall voids and attics — emerging on warm winter days to wander indoors.
