How to Identify It
Tiny, reddish-brown, wingless, and laterally flattened, moving in quick jumps rather than crawling. "Flea dirt" — small dark specks that turn reddish when wet — on pet bedding or fur is a reliable sign of activity.

Springtails (don't bite, jump differently, need constant moisture) and small carpet beetle larvae.
Why It Shows Up
Pets bring fleas in from the yard, a groomer, a dog park, or contact with wildlife, and the eggs fall off into carpet, upholstery, and bedding, where they develop through the full life cycle indoors.
