How to Identify It
Nearly microscopic, gray to white or bluish, wingless, with a tail-like furcula folded under the body that snaps to launch them into the air — the source of the "jumping" behavior people report.

Fleas (springtails don't bite and jump differently — a flea's jump is a controlled hop toward a host; springtails launch erratically) and small gnats.
