How to Identify It
Grayish to reddish-brown on top with a sharply white belly and feet, and a distinctly bicolor tail (dark on top, white underneath). Larger eyes and ears than a house mouse.
Size: Body 7–10 cm plus tail
Commonly Confused With
House mice (uniform gray-brown, tail not bicolor).
Why It Shows Up
Field and woodland edges push them toward garages, sheds, cabins, and homes near undeveloped land, especially as fields are harvested in fall.
